TLM Community Explores Traditional Liturgy with Dr. Peter Kwasniewski

Approximately 90 members of Maine’s TLM community turned out on Sunday, August 18th, for an engaging evening with noted author and liturgist Dr. Peter Kwasniewski, at Holy Martyrs Church in Falmouth.

Dr. Kwasniewski, a founding faculty member, administrator, and choir director at Wyoming Catholic College in Lander, Wyoming, spoke for an hour in a lecture titled, “The Grace of Stability: How Liturgy Forms the Christian Soul.” The lecture was followed by an extended period of Q & A, then attendees enjoyed a dinner and fellowship while continuing to engage Dr. Kwasniewski in conversation concerning how for over 1500 years the traditional Roman Rite has provided a foundation for the Catholic clergy and laity alike, while also developing the bedrock of Western Civilization.

Specific topics Dr. Kwasniewski discussed included the choice and development of Latin as a hieratic, or sacred, language, because of its capacity to articulate both the intellectual heights and the spiritual depths of the emerging Christian faith, as well as the role of the monastic movement in solidifying and spreading the liturgical practices that have sustained and strengthened the Church for well over a millennium.

Una Voce Maine would like to thank Dr. Kwasniewski for sharing his time and insights, the many members of the TLM community whose generous financial support made the entire evening possible, Spencer Dunzik for managing the dinner and clean-up, Austin Gallant of St. Brendan the Navigator Parish in Camden for his generous offer of the promotional poster, and Fr. Cartwright and Joe Moreshead of Holy Martyrs Church for their gracious support and hospitality from start to finish.
